MONIKA BOOK. PATH 1956-2018

FUND. CHIRIVELLA SORIANO. Valeriola, 13

The modernity of Monika Book shines if we place his work of pure geometry at the time of his first steps, more than fifty years ago. According to the curator of the exhibition, José Luis Martínez Meseguer, This Valencian of German origin “is one of the few women who have dedicated themselves to geometric abstraction in the 20th century” and it all started in the highly admired school of Ulm., one of the world's references in design where he completed two of the four years of training (1956 y 1958). There he began to develop a pioneering line of work based on geometric pieces of handmade rulers, with ruler and bevel, without any computer intervention. Technical drawing that is by far perfection, but it becomes human as we get closer to the detail. In this exhibition that is born from the collaboration between the Consortium of Museums and the Chirivella Soriano Foundation, the border between art and design is diluted, in modular works of the years 80 based on repetition, games with line and color gradations and optical-kinetic pieces that seek the illusion of movement by combining lights and colors, some very recent, They give a good account of how wonderfully well Buch continues to paint his 82 years. An exhibition to disappoint those who do not see passion in geometry. S.M.
