SISTER AND SPIRITUALITY

Bancaja Foundation. Pl. Tetouan, 23

The main attraction of the small exhibition Sorolla and spirituality is to enjoy the colossal painting from the Lladró collection I am the bread of life after its restoration, a canvas never exhibited in public - it decorates the premises of Lladró in Tavernes Blanques - "strange and difficult in Sorolla's production" according to the curator of the exhibition, Felipe Garin, because the artist did not indulge in spiritual themes. It recreates a religious scene with a Valencian essence: Jesus proclaims his dignity aboard a Latin sail boat surrounded by fishermen who could perfectly appear in his beach paintings. The other great work in the exhibition is Sad inheritance!, a turning point from which Sorolla moves away from his teachers and takes his own path. S.M.
