UNTIL SUNDAY 20/9
F. BANCAJA. Pl. Gentlemen, 23
He also designed a chair model for the furniture of the Loewe stores and conceived new stained glass windows for the Cathedral of Conca, restructured the Flemish painting exhibitions at the Prado Museum or created a abstract art museum in his little Manxega capital. Conquered Gustavo Torner made the traditional journey from figuration to texturalist abstraction, compassed with art history: refining the forms, decomposing the landscape, avoiding the superfluous, ordering with rigorous structures, conceptualitzant… until reaching extreme simplification. His work is understood as the constant search for the hidden order in nature. It does not try to copy visible shapes, but to decipher the mathematical and geometrical laws that support them. In that eagerness, use rough textures, woods, heavy metals and natural elements that contrast with polished surfaces, frosted and reflective, with the idea of creating visual tension and making the empty space and shadows have the same weight as the physical object. Secret harmony of thought is the Bancaja Foundation's posthumous tribute to an artist who, influenced by the context of artistic renewal in Spain in the mid-twentieth century and by groups such as El Paso, contributed decisively to the consolidation of abstraction in the State.
