UNTIL SUNDAY 23/4/28

The IVAM collection is displayed at home. with this project, The museum redefines its relationship with the city and is committed to giving visibility to a collection that will surprise Valencians. The IVAM Collection until today It is a declaration of intent: after more than two decades without a permanent presentation of its funds, The Institut Valencià d'Art Modern recovers one of the fundamental stories of modern and contemporary art and returns to the Valencian citizens an essential part of their cultural heritage. The exhibition covers the art of the 20th and 21st centuries, brings together more than 500 works of 266 artists and occupies two rooms of the museum. However, beyond the numbers, Its main attraction lies in the possibility of exploring more than a century of artistic creation through an accessible proposal open to multiple readings..
The main itinerary follows a chronological order that begins in the historical Avant-garde of the early 20th century and reaches the most recent artistic practices.. Along the way, fundamental movements such as cubism appear, surrealism, constructivism, informalism, pop art, conceptual art or performance, configuring a history of art that constantly dialogues with the great political and social events of each era. But the exhibition avoids remaining in a succession of styles and dates. In parallel to the chronological journey, IVAM proposes four thematic itineraries dedicated to chromaticism, the ecologies, identities and conflicts. These axes allow connections to be established between works that are distant in time., but united by common concerns, offering a much more dynamic experience than that of a historically linear exhibition. They talk about feminism, environmentalism or totalitarianism as only art can do.
The relevance of this proposal for Valencia is indisputable, not only because it gives citizens permanent access to one of the most important public collections in the State., but because it vindicates the role that Valencian artists have played in the construction of artistic modernity. Figures like Julio González, Joseph Renau, Gabriel Cualladó, Chronicle Team, Carmen Calvo, Eusebio Sempere, Miquel Navarro o Navalon Nativity They appear integrated into an international story that includes names as prominent as Sonia Delaunay, Alexander Calder, Jean Dubuffet, Marcel Duchamp, Cindy Sherman o Gerhard Richter. This coexistence between global references and Valencian creators is one of the great virtues of the proposal. Far from presenting the history of art as something alien, The tour demonstrates the extent to which Valencia and its artists have participated in many of the aesthetic and cultural debates that have defined the last century..
The museography designed for the occasion incorporates elements inspired by the works' storage systems and makes part of the museum's back room visible.. The result is a contemporary montage, flexible and close that invites you to explore the rooms without haste and with curiosity. More than an exhibition, The IVAM Collection until today It is an opportunity to rediscover one of the great Valencian cultural heritages, an essential visit both for those who follow contemporary art closely and for those who want to get closer to recent history through images, the ideas and questions that have marked our time.
