UNTIL SUNDAY 29/5
CARME CENTER. Museum, 2
Why don't you have design at home?? The exhibition why am i like this come to prove you wrong, that design is not a matter of posh sophisticated with money, what design is there in the shaver with which you shave your legs or your chin from time to time. Because this show designed by Valencia World Capital of Design and the Carme Center is not designed for the sophisticated, it is meant for you, that you don't know who Rafael Marquina is, but you bundle the blades together with clips and appreciate that the cleaver doesn't get greasy after you've used it. This is the first of six exhibitions that the CCCC will dedicate to design this year, conceived with absolute didactic spirit by Juli Capella to make us aware that design has made life easier for all of us. In her, it is the everyday objects that tell us visually why they are the way they are. The lighter made it possible to start a fire in the pocket, the self-folding map managed to reduce 18 times its size, the typewriter innovated to make writing faster and more legible, the silicone bib with pocket prevents disasters at the table, Karl Eisner's Swiss army knife explored the multifunction of which today is the paradigm smartphone and Philippe Starck styled clocks and juicers. They are not the only renowned designers we have on display, is Sottsass with his Olivetti, Matteo Thun's teapot, Dieter's Braun electric shaver or Sherman Kelly's ice cream dispenser with hot water in the handle so the ice cream scoops foam instead of compacting, a patented design with which he made a lot of money and which is still valid today. The Closca folding bicycle helmet that protects urban cyclists around the world is the Valencian note in this exhibition that highlights the goodness of objects that we don't value but that help us live better.
