Through the post-truth. Pepe Gimeno. Constructions 20-22

UNTIL SUNDAY 29/5
F. CHIRIVELLA SORIANO. Valeriola, 13

You can't always say that design is art, but you can say with Pepe Gimeno, a designer who straddles both disciplines, one in each hand. It was the National Design Award that year 2020, but what makes it accessible to common mortals (valencians) it's those resounding letters that identify the EMT, the colorful palm tree that promotes Valencian tourism or the Roca healthcare logo. Simple and clear designs that guarantee longevity to the brand, what is asked of a good designer. Exactly what you won't see in this exhibition where Gimeno puts all his creative efforts at the service of a concept like "post-truth", in reference to covering the objectivity of the facts with emotions to blur the truth. Emulate the actions of the post-truth to denounce it. Com? For example, shredding and recomposing newspaper articles and an art encyclopedia that aspire to maximum objectivity (or so they are supposed to) to create a completely different story with the same information, there is distortion from the legible. Forty unpublished pieces created since the hang in Chirivella Soriano 2020 until today that emulate the perverse mechanisms of post-truth using numbers, swirled colors between the black, sharpened canvases, diabonds (aluminum sheet and polyethylene) minted, and messy letters that overlap each other to create visual impact without a message. What post-truth does to language. Here we have one of the greatest talents of the Valencian Country coming out of hiding that provides the creation of a corporate brand and stripping off his personal brand. Now it's not about sorting text boxes, let them breathe and eliminate interference in reading, here Gimeno messes up, it crowds and makes it difficult to receive the message to denounce the perversity of a populist and lying drift that has ended up shamelessly coining "alternative facts".
