MuVIM. Quevedo, 10
The MuVIM from the hand of the philosophy festival AVIVAMENT opened the exhibition in June Beauty and youth which questions the contemporary desire to remain beautiful and eternally young. Science – at the service of our vanity – gives us the opportunity to adapt our bodies and our faces to the canon of beauty prevailing at the time, cosmetic surgery has ceased to be reparative to become beautifying, it is a tool that tries to hide the obsolescence and decrepitude of our chassis. Ever since Plato, human beings have questioned what beauty is (today at all associated with ideas or kindness), a subjective and changing concept that has led us to the tyranny of aesthetics. The tour of the exhibition begins with portraits of famous people signed by Jorge Fuembuena, admired and desired actors like Maribel Verdú, Hugo Silva or Barbara Leni who may not have met the canon of beauty at the time of Clark Gable or Brigitte Bardot. Certainly not in Rubens' time. This section ends with a mirror that reminds us of our physical appearance before delving into the raw photographs of plastic surgeon Ricardo Marujo taken during the operative process. open bodies, suctioned fat, collected eyelids… beauty and youth fashioned at the stroke of a scalpel unaware that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
