SHELTERS

MuVIM. Quevedo, 10

Small trees sprout inside precious jewelry cases with an antique feel signed by the English artist Tetê de Alencar. They are minimalists, precious, delicate… but NOT feminine. “The feminine” is an artificially constructed quality (just like “the masculine”), That is why Tetê rejects it head-on from a feminist discourse that permeates all of her work.. According to the artist, Jewelry is gifts that men give to women., many times for perverse purposes: hide or achieve something. These precious minerals can hide a lot of suffering, but the gardens contained in the closed world of the little boxes have served her to hide at a delicate moment in her life. (the works are from 2018). That is to say, what has transformed an object of connotations a priori negative for her in a soft refuge where Mother Nature flourishes and dominates. The MuVIM exhibition is interesting, different from what we are used to seeing in a museum. AU
