Where did the idea of Mr. Gro and the daughter of the widow Stern?
Ten years ago, I felt like life or how much surrounded me “invited” to take my junk and go and not return until I had settled certain issues, certain difficulties with myself. I embodied it in that fable, That metaphor of the journey. I understood that I had to lose myself, Listen to me, Forget me, Forgive me, understand in another way, die a little, To be able to return. That is what happens to the characters. It's so hard that I could only express it poetically.
A peculiarity that may be surprised at first glance to readers is the extension of this novel, Maybe accustomed to longer stories.
The reader appreciates more and more one night's powders; He likes the long coexistence with long breath readings, But also these flirts. They don't have to be less intense, But it is true that a comfortable extension, A notion of brief parenthesis, of affordable dose, We all appreciate it. There was an intense short novel tradition, of “new”: exceed the usual extension of the story, But not overwhelm the reader with a long relationship.
Among the themes that I believe are emerging between the pages of your novel I wanted to see that of memory, The memory, the atonement and, maybe, An allegory about the human condition.
Today we visit little these semantic fields in our day to day. People are in this resort-with-all-including material and liquid fullness. Do not talk to anyone of atonement, redemption, journey, camino, be reborn, pain, sorry. I had many difficulties to temporarily place the plot. However, it is what there is, It is the important thing. I wanted to be brave and swim in that semantic field. I think the plot is very intimate and that it is the effort of style and fabulation that brings it closer to a universality and, in that sense, Yeah, I wanted to share that notion of my surprising condition.
The landscape as mood, almost like one more character: That sea, That sky, That fishermen's people, Isn't that so?
How much surrounds us overwhelms me, They seem to me magnitudes that harass our individual insignificance and to which we must refer to reverence and all our vulnerability. So, Yeah, to the sea, To heaven, to the monolithic blocks of society, Russian, to the wind and at night, They are spoken to that lack of protection, With the honesty of an exposed mood, reverential, fearful.
