From East to West, in medieval times, saffron arrived from the hands of the Arabs and spread across different territories, taking root in those places where the climatic conditions were more favorable. In the region of Ports de Morella, its cultivation has been known since the 14th century. It was exported all over the Mediterranean. This gives us an idea of the quality of the product produced there. The southern Valencian regions have also stood out for the cultivation of the so-called “or” culinary, in fact, several spice companies have become well known beyond the region. Currently, saffron cultivation has resumed in both Ports de Morella and Vinalopó and it has only been a few weeks since they started harvesting it.
