The voices that the pandemic silenced are shouting again: after its cancellation in June, The Vociferio poetry festival returns this month with a ninth edition as appetizing as it is saving, given the difficulties of the Valencian poetic fabric due to the current capacity limitations, closing of rooms and cancellation of events and fairs. This year, The local will mix with the global in a program where everything is linked by the solidarity and protest character that defines this festival since its beginnings.. Its first two days will be dedicated to honoring the struggle of the Chilean people and celebrating their recent victory in the referendum for the creation of a new constituent process.. For it, in the Botanical Garden, the chilean poet Raul Zurita, awarded the National Poetry Prize in 2009, will recite (by videoconference) next to the Juan Carlos Mestre (National Poetry Award 2009), Mark Granell (Valencian Letters Prize 2020), y Enrique Falcon (to whose acclaimed latest book Silithus The state of alarm caught him in the middle of the launch). After this opening, we will be able to enjoy the twinning between a selection of poets from the Valencià Country and Chilean poets. The contest will continue at the Carme Teatre, where emerging poetic proposals from the Valencian territory will be presented, such as My selfie her y totem, the new album Cavallo, the alcoyan band of punk-jazz y spoken word led by the poet, musician and singer Hugo Mas, u Ovidianes 2.5, the stage recital of David Vid and Enric Casado which commemorates the twenty-five years since the death of Ovidi Montllor. Besides, for the first time, Vociferio has created an open call for poetic projects from residents in the community and it will be broadcast in its entirety on streaming through Youtube live for anyone who cannot attend or prefers to do so from home. In a time as difficult as the one we live in, there is even more room for poetry and, as the festival directors say, “today more than ever the emerging is urgent, what was about to be born or had just begun to be created; “the poetry of the present that must be more present today to aspire to survive in the future.”.
