The commercial signs disappeared in Valencia between 1880 i l’any 2000 they are the focus of this exhibition. Curated by the designer Tomas Gorria, collects visual vestiges that contain stories of old businesses, traditions and fashions that have shaped the character of our city. The designer Juan Nava port since the year 2004 photographing signs and drawing the letters they contain for his magnificent project Recovered letters, and this sample of the College Major Rector Peset also focuses on typography. The other leg of The shadow of the letters it is the urban photography of photographers like Laurent, Parades, Barberà Masip or Roglà who at the beginning of the 20th century captured what the streets looked like, the businesses and social interactions of their time. But it was from the 1960s to the 1980s when some Valencian photographers and designers such as Francesc Jarque or Miguel Calatayud realized the importance of signs as graphic heritage and began to make them the specific target of their snapshots. Hui, designers such as Gorria and Nava, and photographers like Gimenez Tone, already with digital cameras, they continue to capture signs that have unfortunately disappeared from the Valencian urban landscape, but they will revive brilliantly in this exhibition.
