Campus. University architecture in contemporary painting

UNTIL SUNDAY 3/9
THE SHIP. University, 2

The robust and monumental building of the Rectorate of the University of Valencia, work by Mariano Peset Aleixandre, is a clear representative of Valencian art-deco, the Major Lluis Vives College of Francisco Javier Goerlich is one of the most representative examples of the city's architectural rationalism and the Faculty of Philosophy (former Faculty of Law) and the Agronomists building by Fernando Moreno Barberà are iconic works of modern architecture in Valencia. They are buildings of architectural relevance that belong to the University of Valencia and that have not always been protected as needed. They closed the Lluis Vives al 2012 due to structural stability problems and rehabilitation works (face in force) they started almost ten years later, and part of the Agronomists building was dismantled in 2020 for the expansion of the Hospital Clínic. Say açò, the University of Valencia opens in La Nau Campus, a self-referential exhibition that highlights its architectural heritage in which 14 artists give their particular vision of university buildings with completed works expressly. Painting predominates in this stripped-down show that begins with old black-and-white photographs of the university's most iconic buildings, from when Blasco Ibáñez was a wasteland. Roberto Mollà he draws the geometries of the Science Library on his characteristic millimeter paper, Sr. Cifrian (Esther i Carmen) fa photo collage with negatives of the photographs of windows and railings of the Palau de Cerveró i Juan Cuellar abstract from the Gregori Maians Library. Leaving aside the painting, Pamen Pereira build a small architectural space with a horse's humerus to represent the Faculty of Biological Sciences and Teresa Tomas has created an animation where twenty animated sculptures guide us through the digital architecture of the La Nau Cultural Center. They complete the crop of artists Lorena Amorós, Dis Berlin, Paco de la Torre, Carlos García-Alix, Elena Goñi, Jorge Tarazona, Joel Master, Paco Pomet i Nelo Vinuesa. S.M.
