OF SATURDAY 5/9 ON SATURDAY 31/10
THE QUEEN 121. Reina, 121
Sevillian cigar makers became immortal thanks to the opera Carmen. Far from the folklorizing look of Georges Bizet, the Valencian women cigar makers also constituted an important female labor collective during the 19th and 20th centuries in our country. With struggle and mutual support, they managed, for example, a Nursing Home that took care of their children while they worked. The Queen 121 gives voice to these cigar workers who struggled to financially support their families in the seventies and eighties, before the closing of the tobacco factory on 2002. Always with discretion, to avoid conflicts with their men. Elles mateixes conten la seua història en la mostra Valencian cigarette boxes. The last generation, mitjançant textos, old audios and photographs that are a living and proud memory of the city of Valencia. AU
