L’any 1968 the artistic group Antes del arte interested in revitalizing geometric art was formed in Valencia. Its members - Michavila, Sanz, Sempere, Nephew, de Soto, Teixidor and Yturralde – thought that the resources of art could be improved in a moment of effervescence of stimuli that came from other worlds (the advertising, the mass media…) and they were more attractive than those of art. But in those years of expressionism and informalism, visceral enough, this avant-garde and experimental movement that drew on mathematics and optics was not well accepted and was interested in the relationship between science and art. La Nau collects the work of a group that, despite lasting only two years, was significant in Valencian art. S.M.
