Jean Laurent. Photographs of Valencia and Alicante in the 19th century

The box. PHOTOGRAPHIC CENTER. Pl. market, s/n

We have a new cultural center in Valencia, little, not so new, an old acquaintance. The historic building La Llotgeta, property of the CAM Foundation, it becomes a cultural center dedicated specifically to photography thanks to the Foundation Railowsky. The first exhibition will feature old photographs of various places in Valencia and Alicante signed by Jean Laurent, French photographer who in the 19th century dedicated himself to collecting images of Spain to put them up for sale. In La Llotgeta you can see very pictorial photographs on albumen paper of the Xàtiva fountain, the Roman theater of Sagunto, fishing with bulls that Sorolla immortalized, the palm grove of Elche, the lateral panorama of the Túria river and the port of Valencia, with ships that unloaded far from the dock because there was not enough depth in the sea. Nostalgia in pictures to boot “we” cultural project. S.M.
