The Barrack

OF THE 23 Tuesday to Sunday 28/9
OLYMPIA THEATER. Saint Vincent the Martyr, 44

The Valencian actress and director Magüi Mira directs Marta Torres' adaptation of the text The Barrack, a novel by Blasco Ibáñez that, Despite being written in the late 19th century, presents conflicts that can be completely current. Batiste Borrull's family suffers rejection when they settle on land in the Valencian vegetable garden from which they had been evicted, for non-payment, another family that had worked them for generations. But all the tenants in the vicinity want to keep these lands fallow as a symbol of power vis-a-vis their landlords. A story that, inevitably, remember our daily news related to the increase in rents, evictions and the persecution of migrants. G.T.
