the wall

TO THE MUTANT. John Verdeguer, 16

La estrofa “we don’t need no education”, sung with gravity by Roger Waters, It is an inseparable part of one of the most sacred anthems of world rock., “Another brick in the Wall”. The British band Pink Floyd released the concept album The Wall in 1979 telling the story of Pink, a former rock star whose past traumas had caused him to build a wall around himself that isolated him from the world, while plunging him into a self-destructive spiral. Pulling this thread, the great Valencian company The Bald Tit premiered in 2019 the work the wall with which they revisited the suffocating motel room where the protagonist of that historic Pink Floyd album took refuge to portray the tortured mind of a fallen idol, in this case, a woman named Rosi played by Merce Tienda. A piece as musical as this one should have, forcibly, live music—like so many other works by La Teta Calva—and no one better than Carles Giner from the Gener group to perform the songs that inspire the plot of the wall. It is not the first time that the company starts from a musical foundation to build its plays., the previous one, What happened to Michael Jackson, made the King of Pop emerge from his ashes to address topics such as loneliness or the heartbreak of false flattery. Perhaps this circumstance is due to Xavo Giménez's role as a musician., one of the wheels of this tandem in which María Cárdenas also pedals with immense talent. Don't lose anything, nothing, by La Teta Calva. AU
