Alexandria

Alexandria is a theatrical production of the Valencian Institute of Culture (IVC) written by Mertxe Aguilar and Guadalupe Sáez that reflects on hyperconnectivity in this crazy world of immediacy, and about the vigilance to which they are subjecting us with our sight and pleasure. The message is clear, we've gotten used to being watched and it doesn't cause us any problems anymore, we are an apathetic and submissive herd. A very timely topic after hearing the news that citizens' mobile phones are being tracked in the Valencian Community to control mobility during the state of alarm decreed following the Coronavirus crisis. The play begins with a TEDx talk that opens our eyes to the huge amount of information about us that every day we give away we don't know who exactly: calories, hours of are, location, move, pulses, Internet or credit card purchases, Google searches… Very valuable data that is commercialized within a social control machine at the service of power and multinationals. Today's humans are data and those who store and trade with this data, indeed, they have the power. The TEDx talk gives way to a series of linked stories told through screens, the contemporary window to the world. Alexandria profusely reviews all the controversial aspects of this world orwellià that censures nipples in social networks following a hypocritical puritanism, in which we establish family relationships, sexual and telematic work, we think about everything without knowing anything, we travel greedily passing through airports that are "nothing hostels", and we believe self-interested fables that spread hatred in all directions.
