“The important thing is not to describe what the characters are doing, but what they feel while they do it”

Mila Martínez grants me an interview (Valencia, 1962) that just published Return to Eternal (Egales, 2018). Martínez studied law, but what gives flavor to his life is sharing with others the stories that come from his head. His first novel, I'm not going to apologize (2009), started a series of which they are part behind the wall (2010), Self-portrait with sea in the background, (2011) y The Phoenician dagger, (2013). The latter was awarded the Arena Foundation Prize for LGTBQ narrative in its VIII edition.. with the story “without touching you” participated in the anthology Where you can't love, don't delay (2016), that commemorates the 20 years of Editorial Egales. Together with other authors, He has also collaborated on the anthology Every day I like you more (Amazon, 2016), with the story “Palates”. His novels My nights in the Ideal Room ( 2016) y The Essence (2017), are independent of the series. GINÉS J. VERA.

Return to Eternal, your latest novel, seems to close the saga that you started with I'm not going to apologize, When does the idea arise in you to put an end to this story that begins in 2009?
Every person who creates a series should know when the story is no longer enough. The last thing I would like is to offer my readers a product that does not have full flavor., that won't leave them wanting more. I think it is not advisable to stretch the rubber band without having something interesting to say.. In the series that I started with I'm not going to apologize, I have said quite a few things and with the depth I wanted.. It wouldn't be good to continue just to continue., without offering a product that is, at least, up to the previous delivery. It is possible that, within a while, reconsider continuity if something new suddenly occurs to me, but until that happens, I think it's good to conclude the series here..

In Return to Eternal you give background to those who approach the story, because if someone wants to read this book, that they do not have to go to the previous ones. Although I'm sure they will cheer up and do it. It isn't true? Tell me about the importance of the self-contained nature of the novels in this saga..
Making a series carries the risk of losing readers who don't want to make the effort to start from the beginning.. That's why I write for everyone and not just for people who follow the series.. This requires additional work to give new readers a background within each novel., but I think it's worth it. Thus, if I arouse the necessary interest, will consider reading the previous ones, but, in any case, They will be able to continue with new deliveries. Besides, Different things happen in each novel., regardless of whether the same characters or new ones are involved.

There is a lot of passion in all your novels, in addition to love and feelings on the surface, we perceive emotional complicity and a point of ardor, if I may say so. How do I know that you have regular readers?, To what extent do they ask you to raise the temperature of some scenes and are you tempted to do so?? What is the most difficult thing when it comes to telling a seduction scene without falling into clichés and vulgarity??
I have never been asked to add more erotic scenes to my novels, although I know they enjoy them, That's what they told me. The truth is that I usually incorporate them when I think the story demands it., when it is appropriate to express the level of passion that exists between two people at a given moment. I consider that one of the most difficult things to narrate is an elegant erotic scene.. I try to fulfill a premise: the important thing is not to describe what the characters are doing, but what they feel while they do it.
