THE HAÇIENDA. HOW NOT TO RUN A CLUB
Peter Hook
Against Editorial | 2019
None other than the creator of those signature bass lines in New Order or Joy Division is the one who hides behind this book: the illustrious Peter Hook. And he knows well what he's talking about, Well, he wasn't in The Haçienda in passing like most of the Mancunian bands of the time.; Hookie was one of the owners of this hole through which part of his large income as a musician disappeared., at the same time that it became the mythical room that ended up written in golden letters in the history of music.. Reading this book is like leaning on the bar counter and having the author himself talk to you, laughing, about his business incompetence in fourteen years of uninterrupted partying.. A pleasant book full of anecdotes told in first person, with a factory converted into a steel and glass club as the setting for hilarious stories that have its characters as protagonists: the eccentric regular clientele, las (now mythical) bands that stepped on its stage, mafias and local moneylenders, drug (many) and all without forgetting its workers and owners, among whom was also a Tony Wilson eager for adventures beyond Factory Records. Yes when you hear the word “Madchester” your ears open, this is your book.
