Someone may think that strawberries (also called strawberries, mariotxes, among other popular names) they are fruits of distant and icy countries, but they are very present, in the wildest versions in many mountainous corners of the Valencian geography. In the cultivated version, they were very popular in the city of Valencia and in other regions such as Camp de Morvedre or La Costera, where yet, and more and more, have cultivated. The history of Vinça in the month of May transports us to the Valencia of the 19th century, in an area adjacent to the Túria river between the old Palau de Ripalda, the Hort de Romero and the street – currently called – de les fraules. There was an immense fraud that delighted the wealthiest people of Cap i Casal, but also of more humble people, in the well-remembered Hort del Santíssimo, a space where freshly picked strawberries were served and that left many taste memories for years and years (and olfactory) as Valentine's.
