Jorge in the start, more than booksellers, they are community builders. When the year 2012 they decided to open the bookstore Paper dreams in Benetússer, they did it from the need to bring culture to their town and bring books closer to people without them having to travel to Valencia. They wanted people to have stories, knowledge and excitement within reach, in his lifelong street. We buy, the couple find themselves immersed in paperwork and paperwork after the havoc caused by DANA, but also excited by the support of the neighbors. “It's funny how, in times of crisis, people respond with overflowing love”. They receive messages every day, phone calls, web orders and, especially, an injection of strength that encourages them to keep going. His paper dream is more than a bookstore: it is a welcoming place, a meeting point, a space where customer(e)they become friends, in family. For now, the bookshop is already a benchmark for children's and youth literature and it is not strange to hear: “If you want a book for boys or girls, go to Paper Dreams”.
There have been many cultural activities that they have stimulated: book clubs, micro theater, concerts and book presentations. They have made the bookstore a real cultural link for Benetússer. In group, despite the fact that the bookstore is empty and there are still remnants of mud, Jorge and Laia look to the future with hope. “We will rise again and rise again”, assures Jorge. Somnis de Paper will reopen with more force, more eager to share stories, to nurture critical awareness and build community. Because – as Laia says – “reading is another way of thinking, and thinking makes us better people".
