Demolished the last symbol of the struggle for the vegetable garden: the Furna de Barraca

At the same time that the Generalitat declared a climate emergency in the Valencian territory this September, the voracity of asphalt and tiles has begun to take its toll for the umpteenth time in the Valencian vegetable garden. The core of (we) conflict: the extension of the V21 road, between the centers of Valencia and Alboraia. This work, devised by the Valencian government of 2008 (PP) and carried out by the current Spanish government (PSOE), already carried out the expropriations in June of this year and last week demolished the farmhouse in Baiarri (prop of the UPV) at the time it has swept away 80.000 m² d'horta (l’equivalent a 18 football fields). The Furna de Barraca, an oven from the beginning of the last century and the only morú in the region, was to be demolished by the end of September, but for more than a week it had been taken by citizens who guarded it day and night before the demolition that arrived this morning. In the dark and denying the right to take pictures to the press that was there, the Civil Guard evacuated the building while arresting one of the people who was peacefully resisting. Two boys climbed onto the roof and attached themselves with chains and harnesses until the devices gathered in the area (more than 100 agents and a Civil Guard helicopter, a fire truck, demolition cranes and other assets) they managed to get them down just before arresting them too. As the Per l'Horta association has repeatedly denounced (followed your Twitter to be aware of everything), this project is only the tip of the iceberg that aims to make more than disappear 264.000 m² of vegetable garden in full production through this extension and the Alboraia General Plan. The same environmental association encourages citizens to submit allegations (the end of the day 30 of September). By now, the Forn de Barraca will remain in the memory as another symbol of the defense of the Valencian vegetable garden and has received the support of many Valencian social sectors. On the other side of the coin, PSOE, PP, Citizens and Vox have refused to paralyze a project that goes against the interests of the big port companies and against global environmental recommendations to stop what will be the biggest crisis of our century.
