The Valencian publishing house Barlin Libros has just published history of bread. A trip from Odyssey to the wars of the 21st century, in which the Italian researcher Gabriele Rosso examines the influence of this food on political evolution, economic and social of the West. The book shows us the real dimensions of a product that is much more than a basic food for consumption and explains the impacts that its production and distribution have had over the centuries. A journey through various historical stages to explain how the control of cereals and food reserves has contributed to consolidating power structures. The work also addresses episodes of hunger, social conflicts and economic transformations related to access to food. Rosso reveals how the history of bread allows us to understand the relationships between food and power and explains how the mechanisms that have marked the societies of the past are still present today, especially in matters linked to global trade and food security.
