Our Lady of Grace, 6
In an age where everything is available at the click of a button, in which the recommendations are generated by means of algorithms and in which the purchase is brought to your home in less than ten minutes, “take time” it has become a luxury. Taking time is, for example, put a vinyl record on a record player, after having gone to buy it in a record store and having followed the recommendation of the seller or a journalist. Taking time is simply being curious and listening, two of the things we forget to do nowadays. With this philosophy, Mario, Andrew, Xema and Pere took on the crazy challenge of taking over the Valencian record store Oldies behind the 2021. Do you think it is necessary to remember that this mythical place, in more than forty years of history and passion, has managed to resist the invasion of the cultural departments of shopping centers, the digital revolution and online sales? A few weeks ago, a new chapter opens for this cave of musical Ali Baba. Although the new partners retain the original essence of the store (second-hand records - vinyl and CD - and the best place in the world to find music in Valencian!), they also want to give it a modern and personalized touch such as highlighting discs of quality labels, open up to other genres (el hip-hop, l’electro, the metal…) i, more parity in the selection, gain presence in social networks and in local music events (we can find an Oldies stand, We buy, at the Pergola Concerts). I, especially, they don't want to become a space mainstream thus participating in a struggle of music lovers against the mass commercialization of music. The four friends want to make Oldies a space for coexistence where the exchange with customers is always a priority. Mario, with whom we met to prepare this article, confirms our enthusiasm for the project and the pleasure of working with them every day 150.000 records and enriching human reunions. And us, the clientele, we are delighted that the Oldies adventure will continue for many years to come. BRUNO L. @lafonotecaFR
