Women writers take the stage!! The Valencia Negra festival has prepared an edition in which they, black genre novelists, stand out from any male pen. All international guests will be women and, of the 56 participating authors, almost two thirds are authors. There is nothing. We present them to you by nationality. From Great Britain we will have Fiona Barton, that with his first novel, The widow, became an international publishing phenomenon published in 35 countries; a Bernadette MacDougall (signs with the pseudonym B.A. Paris), mother of five daughters who overcame empty nest syndrome by writing thrillers like When you close the door, a bestseller that will become a movie; a Sharon Bolton, whose latest novel, The craftsman, was among the ten best-selling books according to The Sunday Times; already Vanessa Savage, who grew up near Gloucester when married couple Fred and Rosemary West raped, They tortured and murdered twelve women. Precisely with a thriller psychological about a dysfunctional family, The woman in the dark, his debut novel, has achieved success. We will have two French authors, the Marseillaise resident in London Johana Gustawsson, well known for the novel Block 45 where he mixed crime with stories from World War II; y Sandrine Destombes, that explores the thriller psychological in his latest novel published in Spain, The double secret of the Lessage family, about the disappearance of two twins thirty years ago. It is written in installments because it won the VSD RTL award in which the candidates submit their works by chapters and advance to the next round according to the voting and the interest aroused in the readers.. Finally, the Italian Antonella Lattanzi, regular contributor to Italian newspapers The Press y The Republic, has written novels like Before you betray me, finalist of the Strega Award in 2013 y A dark story in 2017. And here comes the first man of this edition, Lorenzo Silva, who will receive the González Ledesma award for his entire career.
This and much more in the literary section. When you open the fan, we will have the traditional film noir series at La Filmoteca, with Angie Dickinson as the protagonist and, in the Russafa Room, the long-awaited play based on a noir film, this year, Perdition, The Billy Wilder. The first session of VLC Negra will discuss gender violence in Valencia with experts, and like every year, the festival looks into reality, where the dead are flesh and blood. The criminologist and novelist Vicente Garrido will talk about multiple murderers, protagonists of his latest non-fiction book, and journalists Manuel Marlasca and Antonio Lozano will participate in a panel on the new frontier of real crime. The El Mercat restaurant and Gastroestudio will offer very black menus during the festival days and everything will end, As usual, with book signing and ham tapas on Passeig de Russafa. S.M.
