FROM THURSDAY 24/4 ON SUNDAY 4/5
NURSERY GARDENS. Cavanilles, 1
All are round numbers 2025. We celebrate the 60th Valencia Book Fair and the forty years since it was celebrated at Jardins de Vivers. They say it is the second most important fair in Spain (understanding that Sant Jordi in Barcelona is not orthodox a "fair") and that does not stop growing. For the third consecutive year, it will break the record for exhibitors and booths, 131 total, occupied by public libraries, chains, editorials, distributors and the jewels that are independent bookstores. this year, the fair arrives with the firm purpose of helping the recovery of the book sector affected by the dana del 29 of October. Remember that editorials with Contrabando, story, Litera, Sembra or Bromera lost part of their stock, and that bookstores like Bufanúvols in Catarroja or Moixeranga in Paiporta were swept away by the mud. In that sense, the paradox is that some affected bookstores will be present at the Book Fair with their own booth without having yet been able to reopen their premises. This is the case of Somnis de Paper in Benetússer, which at the end of March was still temporarily installed in the town's Municipal Market with the books displayed in a food display.
This year's Valencia Book Fair Awards will be for Raquel Ricart (Valencian), who reaches the milestone with a last titled book The God's finger; the historical Manuel Vincent (Spanish), who has just published an autobiographical story called A particular story; i Bibiana Collado Cabrera (talent emergent), Author of Beef chips and other poetry books, who succeeded with the novel exhausted mares. Pel que fa als book clubs (in Valencian and Spanish), we will have a Manuel Baixauli commenting on his novel horse, Athlete, bird, awarded with the Omnium Prize for the best novel of 2024; i a Maria Oruña, with a book that hybridizes history, mystery and science, oceanic setting: The black albatross. There will be debates, signatures, a conversation with Premi Planeta 2024 Paloma Sánchez-Garnica and presentations, many presentations. From international authors such as the renowned Greek-Swedish author Theodore Kallifatides, winner of several European prizes for his novels and the trilogy composed of the titles Peasants and gentlemen, The plow and the sword, i A cruel peace. There are nationally recognized authors such as Rosa Montero o Manuel Vilas, of voices as interesting as those of Sabina Urraca (editor of the best-selling surprise donkey belly) o Purification Mask, which has passed into Spanish with Like a ring around the neck after ringing the bell with Mireia; of important narrators in the Catalan language such as Go to Benesiu (Terminus), and of Valencians who resonate in the media like José Luis Sastre (The stolen phrases) o Joaquim Bosch (Check to democracy). if you can, avoid weekends and peak times, for what was a pleasant walk through the booths of the fair, the last years, it has become a distressing headache.
