Trip to Corfu. Carlos Perez. L’home-museum

CARME CENTER. Museum, 2
Virtual visit.

Carlos Pérez has been a key figure in the Valencian cultural world in recent decades. Educationalist, writer, museumologist and expert on the artistic avant-gardes of the 20th century who sacked the artistic panorama of the earth from great artistic institutions such as IVAM and MuVIM, renewing museography, strengthening the pedagogical component and breaking the barrier between high and low culture. The exhibition proposed by the Center del Carme, Trip to Corfu. Carlos Perez. L’home-museum, it is designed as a journey through his life and professional career in the form of a tribute. The exhibition begins by contextualizing the character with personal photographs, and works and objects that are part of its collection. toys, photographs of the Chinese Quarter of Valencia taken by him (he was a good fan of the seventh art), circus posters, an original by Arturo Ballester, exquisite boards of the game of La Oca, doll and animal cutouts… they hang from the walls of the Center del Carme recreating - with piano included - some rooms of his house. Next, his unattainable professional work is revealed to us on a large wall with posters of the exhibitions in which he was involved, some of the most important that this city has seen happen with names as big as those of Tàpies, Arroyo, Bauhaus, Grosz, Moholy-Nagy, carpenter… a kind of index of his interests and his tireless activity (he used to do up to eight exhibitions in a year). You will also find theprops intellectual that nourished all this activity, magazines and books from your library, as important for the content as for the design of the cover. He was passionate about typography. And he ends the show by exhibiting his artistic production, books in which he collaborated as Buffalo Bill. Romance edited by Media Vaca or, the one that gave him the most joy, Glory be to you, il·lustrat by Miguel Calatayud, about a vegetarian lion who lived in the Baba Kamo country. You sound? S.M.
