An approach to Valencian geometry

CITY MUSEUM. Pl. archbishop, 3

When art stopped aspiring to faithfully represent reality, He began to refine the figures and reduce them to basic geometric shapes of pure colors.. Mondrian arrived, Kandinsky and Malevich at the beginning of the 20th century changed the paradigm with abstract compositions, flat and rhythmic with open meaning, and with a little delay, in the mid years 50, Spain would get hooked on the new currents of the Avant-garde. In this context is where we place the artists of the Parpalló Group and “assimilated” ones., the first to propose geometric art in Valencia at the end of the 50, constructive tone, experimental and normative. The Chirivella Soriano Foundation has brought together in the Museu de la Ciutat works from its collection by some of these pioneering artists and others who arrived later to highlight the role of Valencians in Spanish geometric art. From the first period it is a geometric gouasche of Eusebio Sempere and several of his tables from the years 70, and other compositions Manolo Gil, Vicente Castellano, Salvador Montesa, Joaquin Michavila y Salvador Victoria. At the end of the years 60 The group Before Art was established in Valencia, who tried to value constructivist plastic art within a context favorable to figuration, with names like those of José María Yturralde y Jordi Weaver. Already in the years 80 and the 90, José Iranzo “It's here” focused on the constructivist approach with the series Lyrical Geometry of and excelled Martin Noguerol for its way of making visible the indefinite. These last two artists are the cream of the cream of the exhibition. In this last stage we would also frame Embodies Sepúlveda, who a few months ago presented the exhibition at the Palau de Valeriola Braiding time with that acid green so characteristic where the geometric gains space over the organic until it ends up winning. Another artist to whom the foundation has dedicated a retrospective and is present at the Museu de la Ciutat is Monika Book, a woman with more than sixty years of artistic career, one of the few that have dedicated themselves to geometric abstraction in the 20th century, in your case, hand painting geometric pieces of ruler with ruler and bevel.
