Marking our bodies shows a path, a route, a belief or identity. This is how it has been done for more than five thousand years, until today when tattooing is already considered an art. The exhibition Tattoo. Art under the skin proposes a trip to the unique universe of tattooing from an anthropological perspective and analyzes the resurgence of this global phenomenon, following tattoo professionals as well as tattooed people through eras and continents. We will get to know the traditional tattoo of the Polynesian tribes —d’where the practice takes its name ("must", open wound)—, I draw themthese that the sailors considered talismans or calls to good luck on their skin, tattooed characters in circuses as an attraction, the relationship between tattooing and crime through photos of gang members. We will see the first utensils for tattooing, albums, photographs, sculptures and even silicone pieces in which professionals of this art show the evolution of traditional designs to the very impressive creations of today.
