UNTIL SATURDAY 24/2
THE SHIP. University, 2
To the cry of "Vives ens volem", "The revolution will be feminist" or "The rich have abortions.", poor women die", La Nau fills its rooms with the works of thirty female artists who denounce male violence and claim the freedom of women all over the world. Art and activism join hands in this huge exhibition (not only in a spatial sense) that collects photographs, paint it collages coming from the funds of Valencian public universities and various private collections. The route of So many women in one covers four exhibition spaces that address various complaints: End gender violence exhibits works that make visible and denounce violence in all its forms, Women are not weapons of war highlights the specific types of violence that women suffer due to their involvement in armed conflicts, i Against sexist stereotypes exhibits like fashion, the cinema, advertising or art have sexualized and reified the female sex since the world was a world. Last Resilience and survival claims the path of overcoming violence, closing the tour with a message of hope. Within this last space we also find Outraged of Maria Acha-Kutscher, a shocking compilation of female participation in public protests from 2012, with full-color drawings based on press photographs and alternative media. Heartbreaking texts make us relive how women around the world have cried out for their rights and for the injustices experienced. We remember the protests for the sentence of the Manada in Spain in 2018, the tears of Argentine women when the abortion law was finally approved in 2020; the incendiary demonstrations in Iran over the death of Mahsa Amini, the young woman murdered in 2022 by the security forces after being arrested for wearing the veil incorrectly. We remember social movements like 15M, Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter or feminist groups and movements like Pussy Riot, Women, SlutWalk, #Metoo, Not one less, #SeAkabo. We remember all this and realize the importance of addressing the largest global pandemic in history (violence against women) from the university, because only through culture and education will we be able to move towards a more equal society. Exhibitions like this make us stand up and, as the great Nina Simone said, "when a woman stands up for herself, stands up for all”. GLORIA POZUELO
