THE SHIP. University, 2
Nau has invited Núria Rodríguez to dive through the documentary heritage of the University of Valencia to extract an artistic reading from it. specifically, has delved into the work that the naturalist Alexander von Humboldt developed within his field by applying scientific methodology. He was the first to understand nature as a system of relationships and to investigate it around the world without any colonialist intention. With a lot of passion and disguised as a historian of science, the artist has transformed Humboldt's account of his journey on foot through the Mediterranean into a large-format painting, where he met, among many other things, Cabanes beach (place of Marina d'Or) and the Coll de Balaguer (hui, the nuclear power plant of Vandellòs). A catastrophic reading can be made, obviously, but it is not the spirit that dominates a sample full of rocks, palm trees, plants and mountains. S.M.
