UNTIL SUNDAY 22/3
THE SHIP. University, 2
Between 3.000 i 5.500 years has one of the oldest olive groves in the world, which is located in the town of Al-Walaja, in the West Bank. He was born when it was not Ottoman, nor british, nor palesti, nor israeli. And there it remains, how will the palestinians remain as long as there are olive trees and rudder. Escif's always vindictive art is put at the service of the Palestinian cause in the exhibition Olive trees grow in Gaza of the Ship, where he shares space with fourteen other artists: Gazian photojournalists, Blu, Fermín Jiménez Landa i l’ultra (of the)known Banksy, others. In the most privileged area of the room is located Axe, a sculpture conceived by Escif and Banksy for the exhibition Gross Domestic Products (2019). An ax, which is usually used to destroy trees, here she becomes a tree herself when she sees how a flower springs from its handle. The metaphor is served: resistance through beauty. Escif also presents a series of watercolors of buildings destroyed by the Israeli army on which he has embroidered tatreez (typical Palestinian embroidery) different symbols of Palestinian resistance. And a ceramic sculpture depicting a broken loaf of bread. Another metaphor well served.
You will also be able to see, hanging on the facade of La Nau, a canvas of the American Shepard Fairey with an illustration based on an image by Gazan photojournalist Belal Khaled, where a bloodied Palestinian child asking for help challenges us directly: “Can you hear us?” Lastly, we highlight the animation of the Italian Blu, made expressly for the exhibition with four hundred fragments of murals painted by the artist in the city of Marseille. Shows how the criminal alliance between the United States and the state of Israel is causing bombs to fall on children, ambulances and people queuing to collect food in Gaza.
The Delàs Center for Peace Studies is clear about this: wars are the direct result of economic interests linked to the production and sale of weapons. The Global North manufactures more than 95% global, while the 95% of the conflicts taking place in the Global South. specifically, the United States has provided more than 21.700 million dollars in military aid to Israel from October 2023 and Spain—which is the world's ninth largest arms exporter—has maintained military relations with the genocidal state after the 7 of October and has signed contracts with Israeli companies for more than one billion euros. Delàs reminds us that to stop wars and genocide you don't need to look to the sky, the flow of money must be cut off. S.M.
