UNTIL SUNDAY 5/6
F. BANCAJA. Pl. Tetouan, 23
The Bancaja Foundation reviews three decades of work by one of the most important contemporary Valencian artists, Go to Sanleón, who has moved shamelessly between abstraction and figuration without ever mixing with what is accepted by academicism. When his large-format labyrinthine paintings that we can see in the exhibition were successful, instead of continuing to exploit the vein, he turned to look for new reasons, formats i materials. Say açò, the catarrogí has created professionally for the occasion a labyrinthine installation presided over by death that converses with the famous pieces of 1991. Their desire to innovate, who have drunk from the informalism of Tàpies and abstract expressionism, they are evident in the variety of non-noble materials that are present in the show (was, aluminum, his, wood, tile…), in the diversity of subjects (the family, the city, the labyrinth, the landscape, spirituality…) and the different formats that are combined (photograph, paint, sculpture i collage) making his geometric passion evident. Layered and riveted paintings, folded truck tarps, sculptures made with aluminum geometry, landscapes inspired by the Devesa, mapes resignificats i collages very personal that wink at Basquiat make up this exhibition that collects the different worlds of Joan Sanleón, a home that, said the curator of the exhibition Fernando Castro, it only bends to the power of the family.
