The batch of good illustrators that Valencia has produced in the last decade is dazzling. Paula Bonet, Ana Penyas, Cristina Duran, Carla Fuentes y Maria Herreros —chosen by the publisher Bags as one of the hundred most influential illustrators in the world in its 2019 catalog— They are some of the women who have put this land on the map of national and world enlightenment.. Herreros is the protagonist of this exhibition that is about another woman artist, Georgia O’Keeffe, to which the museum Thyssen dedicated an exhibition to him in 2021 and commissioned the Valencian to make a comic about the life and work of the American for the occasion.. From this order arises Georgia O’Keeffe X María Herreros, a sample with 102 pencil and charcoal drawings that unfold the entire story, the original of the cover, 14 sketches of O'Keeffe and layout of the project, germ of what would be the finished work. The author has labeled the original and the pages are arranged in a room so that the visitor can “read” the comic in its entirety and get an idea of its narrative dimension., in addition to enjoying very personal illustrations that bring beauty out of the grotesque and imperfection.
