Exercises to disarm the world

UNTIL SUNDAY 4/12
MuVIM. Quevedo, 10

Bodies and spaces are places of counterpower for Tamara Djurovic “Hyuro”. The renowned Argentine muralist established in Valencia died in 2020 and received a well-deserved tribute in the form of an exhibition at Poliniza, the urban art festival of the Polytechnic University of Valencia that hosted his interventions in two editions. Now the MuVIM picks up the gauntlet by distilling the same essence, that of showing his speech and committed language, very critical of the patriarchal system in a subtle but crude way, simple but metaphorical, with a clear line and a controversial subtext. The self-representation, the metamorphosis, collectivity and everyday actions as political acts are repeated in the drawings, posters, screen prints and artist's notebooks that are exposed to Exercises to disarm the world. The laugh sequence, the undressing or the applause, lonely and wild faceless women (without individuality) that they sew, they cook, they masturbate and scream in despair, the changes that occur in mother-daughter relationships over the years or the power of the collective in the fight against oppression (that of the tile, for example), symbolized by walls, cages and puppets, they make up the imagination of a very special artist who turned the intimate and personal into a public and political weapon.
