Things that do CLAC

UNTIL SUNDAY 14/9
CARME CENTER. Museum, 2

Ceramics is a trend, And not only in the high artistic spheres; In recent years, They have opened in Valencia more than a dozen stores and workshops dedicated to working mud. And in the elite, Art professionals have the eye on it, They have created specialized art fairs and many contemporary artists have incorporated ceramics in their jobs, Even if it's not your specialty. Less than a year ago, The gallery Rosa Santos collected this trend in his exhibition slippery knots, With the work of six women from different origins and generations that worked ceramics, between them, The Villenense Patricia Varea Milan. The Valencian Community has a great ceramic tradition, deployed with Boato at the González Martí Museum of Suntarias and in sight in the Barrio del Cabanyal and in emblematic buildings such as the Nord Station or the Columbus Market. Well then, the exhibition Things that do CLAC It arises like An attempt to make visible the use of ceramics in the most recent Spanish art, From very open approaches and fleeing the purely artisanal. It has been a complex production, for the number of pieces exposed (180 of 33 artists), for the delicacy of these and for the little studied of the subject. The Commissioner of the Exhibition, José Luis Clemente, has mounted a representative sample in which, He recognized, Two totems of contemporary Valencian art are missing: Carmen Calvo y Miquel Navarro. Despite these two great absences, A third of the artists are Valencians. The one who is not is Juan Olivares, who lost the ceramic pieces of his Catarroja workshop in the Barranch of the 29 October; And the one who is, subtly honored, is Xisco Mensua, deceased last January. We have the oldest artisan matter of humanity, used today in elements as everyday as teeth implants, reformulated in art pieces of every fur: photograph, danger, readymades, painted tile, etc. Clemente has devised a thug and baroque assembly, Nothing minimalist - as the Valencian, affirmed—, where sexuality designed by women fits, The sinister, Political and social criticism, The eschatology, The absurd and humor, synthesized in the figure of a gnome bending to the matrix. Ceramics in contemporary art is cooked in the Center del Carme. S.M.
