Berlanga by El Flaco

MuVIM. Quevedo, 10

At the exhibition Visca Berlanga! the MuVIM has released an appendix made of analog images signed by a photographer inseparable from the Valencian reality, José García Poveda “The skinny one”, friend of the filmmaker whose birth anniversary we are commemorating this year, Luis García Berlanga. When Berlanga died in 2010 El Flaco looked for snapshots of him in his Turia Billboard archives, of the exhibition Valencia del Flaco (feta to La Nau on 2017) and of La Mostra de Cine de Valencia to verify that, indeed, he had enough material to pay him his particular tribute. From here this one was born exhibition of eighty images - some never seen before - that capture El flaco's photographic relationship with such a multifaceted character as Berlanga. you will find, for example, the photos depicting the reconciliation between the Valencian director and Juan Antonio Bardem in the Rialto cafeteria, the last day of shooting Paris-Timbuktu (where Berlanga gets stuck on the back) or the scene where it appears, yes major, smoking in a wheelchair in front of the Teatro Olympia in the tribute that the Mostra paid to him 2009 planting a fault about fetish and In Jordan, reproduced in the main exhibition Visca Berlanga! Together with portraits and other images with Nino Manfredi (The executioner), Richard Muñoz Suay, Rafael Azcona, Rita Barbera, Alain Delon, Francis Montesinos, Concha Velasco, Juan Diego, Elia Kazan (this photograph was given to him by El Flaco in Berlanga for his birthday) and the team of everyone to jail in a press conference. El Flaco says that many of these photos are "stolen", but that Berlanga, always solicitous, posed for him without problems, hanging, for example, the Turia Award from his ear as if it were an earring or fitting a cap that had been passed from head to head and, expected, it wasn't full of lice. At the exhibition you will see many faces of Berlanga, many of them relaxed and confident to have in front of them a photographer friend who sat at the same table as him in long tables. AU
