Everyday actions

CARME CENTER. Museum, 2

The exhibition has been waiting for more than two months to be assembled. Everyday actions by Maribel Domènech at the Center del Carme without eyes to see her. It was China's turn because just on the day of the inauguration the Spanish government decreed a quarantine throughout the country and the consequent closure of all cultural spaces.. So there it has been, in darkness, waiting for visitors to arrive and letting themselves be seen that way through virtual visits. What we have today, It is once again a woman taking over the most emblematic room of the Center del Carme to show us her artistic career in depth, in this case, more of 35 years of career that meanders between social demands and ecofeminism using sculpture and installation as tools. An attraction is that the 40% of the pieces have never been seen in Valencia and the paradox is that this artist, who claims to have never knitted a scarf in his life, he builds his sculptures by interweaving threads, bueno, more like electrical cables that end up designing dresses. After a stage of experimentation with iron inserted into the constructivist currents of the time (Spain years 80), in which the everyday already appears, He begins to investigate with light until he reaches the impressive dresses woven with homemade cables that occupy the central axis of the Ferreres room, representing the past and the present.. Domènech's fascination with electric light, movement and communication is evident, clearly 😉 In the last stage the sea will become central. The more or less chronological journey of Everyday actionssample, between the intimate and the social, deconstructed iron chairs, the role of older women in social movements, illuminated lighter pieces that represent warm home and windows that face the street, vulnerable bodies that have lost rigidity, vests made of threads that would sink under the weight of the weights and an installation made with moving buoys that rub against each other like people within social movements, free but moving in unison like the tide.
