Few theatrical texts have been more revised than Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov, but we couldn't pass up this version of the drama for several reasons. Primer, because it bears the signature of Àlex Rigola, former director of the Free Theater of Barcelona and Theaters of the Channel of the Community of Madrid, where I resigned a couple of months ago in protest at the police repression exercised during the day of October 1 in Catalonia. Another of the great attractions of this one Vania it's the list: Luis Bermejo (has recently passed through Valencia with The King i The clown minute), Gonzalo Cunill (Who is me. Pasolini, by Rigola, that we saw in Las Naves), Irene Escolar (Press Max for The public, also directed by Rigola) and Ariadna Gil, well-known for her impressive resume in cinema. The third big attraction is the staging: the four perform inside a wooden box with very few elements, which they share with the spectators in absolute intimacy – only sixty people – to be able to express true thoughts instead of representing them. Rigola shows in the cleanest and most direct way the relationships and conflicts of the characters of Vania, a classic of the early 20th century. S.M.
