The ugliest woman in the world

FROM THURSDAY 12 ON SUNDAY 22/1
RUSSAFA ROOM. Dénia 55

With text and direction by Manu Valls, and interpretation by Lucía Aibar, Juan Carlos Garés and Valls himself, La Penúltima and Dacsa Produccions premiere this black comedy with a dramatic background that reflects on the limits of evil embodied in ruthless profit, in machismo, human exploitation and vicarious violence. Based on real events, but with licenses, The ugliest woman in the world tells the life of Theodor Lent and the Mexican Julia Pastrana, a simian-looking mezzo-soprano who suffered from hypertrichosis and was exploited by Lent until he became rich, exhibiting it in public in what came to be called “fair shows” in the 19th century.
