It is always essential to know where one is, more so if there is a border that comes and goes. Paulino and Carmela are two variety artists who in the civil war find themselves in the wrong place at the least opportune time. Ai, Carmela is an equal parts tender and cruel story in which this comic duo will find themselves embroiled, forced to improvise a tense performance in front of a hostile group of fascist military and to act for the international brigades before being shot. The text by the Valencian José Sanchis Sinisterra was brought to the cinema in 1990 by Carlos Saura and won 13 goyas, among them, the best adapted screenplay. LUCAS SÁEZ
