THE FILMTECA. Pl. town hall, 17
Big screen cinema returns to the temple of celluloid in Valencia. The Film Library resumes activity after its abrupt dismissal forced by the health crisis with the two cycles that it had running in March: “Cooper: love and rage” and “Centenario Fellini”. Like everywhere, The institution will maintain the recommended security measures to minimize the spread of the virus (reduced capacity, safety distance…) y, besides, will schedule a single session a day instead of the usual three. The retrospectives that have structured La Filmoteca's programming in recent months, and that they will be resumed after the summer, They worship two masters of modern European cinema by rescuing four capital films. From Fellini we can see two works with autobiographical overtones full of baroqueism, the fantasy and melancholy that define the last stage of the Italian filmmaker: Roma [25-26/6], a mythical and sensual portrait in an autobiographical key of fascist Rome in the 1930s and the beginning of the 1970s with humorous touches on the special psychology of its inhabitants.; y Amarcord [4-5/7], a word that combines “amore” (amor), “core” (core), "remember" (remember) and “amaro” (bitter) to synthesize “a feeling, a state of mind, an attitude, a contradictory dual way of feeling and thinking”, in the director's own words. Fassbinder's two films revolve around power relations and sexual and class discrimination: in Mom Küster's journey to happiness [27-28/6] A chemical plant worker about to be fired unexpectedly murders his boss's son and then commits suicide.; y Fear of fear [2-3/7] It is the story of a housewife, victim of a very subtle structural violence who does not fit into the role of wife and mother..
