“An academic definition of the term lynch it could be that it refers to a particular class of irony in which the very macabre and the very mundane are combined in such a way as to reveal the perpetual inclusion of the former within the latter.” With this quote from David Foster Wallace, author of the no less macabre and ironic novel The infinite joke, The Valencia Film Library presents this series dedicated to one of the most important figures in contemporary cinema. Many things can be said about David Lynch and none of them would cover everything that his work suggests. Univers Lynch start this month of March with eraser head [2 i 4/3], his unclassifiable feature debut and cult film by definition. This tape will be followed by one of his more "normal" works, The elephant man [10 i 25/3], both superb Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt. It is followed by two films that, after those first two experiences, they would go on to define their radical style, as described by Foster Wallace: Blue velvet [11 i 24/3] i wild heart [21 i 26/3]. The series is shown in restored copies and includes a program with his short films, preceded by presentation videos by Lynch himself. G.LEON
