The Center del Carme continues to squeeze out American comedy in its original version to brighten the torrid August nights with good open-air cinema. The silent film will be screened The fly man with live music and comedy The little shop of horrors, a musical update of Roger Corman's classic to celebrate the eclipse on August 12. Besides, from Los Angeles, the director will come Joey Breaker to present the film, recovered from the nineties that, after three decades without projecting, will inaugurate the program. Actor Richard Edson plays a highly competent artist manager who must navigate a showbiz world ravaged by AIDS.. Produced by independent filmmaker Amos Poe, young talents such as Gina Gershon and Philip Seymour Hoffman appear in the cast.
The cycle will show the hidden side of the American continent with 27 comedies—fifteen of them unpublished in Spain—that cover different forms of humor, within a chronological arc of more than a century. Starts with a classic 1923 and ends with one of the best films of last year: A poet, by Oscar Restrepo. But, in the middle, there is much more: Film Geek, about a film buff who loses his life's job in a video store and navigates between erudition and sociopathy; Defending your life, in which Albert Brooks must contemplate and judge his transit through Earth on a screen from purgatory (a hilarious Meryl Streep accompanies); At night you come, Esmeralda, where the protagonist is accused of bigamy on the eve of her wedding and must face a hilarious trial that brings together five of her lovers; o Fate has no favorites, which was not released commercially in Spain despite having been considered by critics the best Peruvian comedy of all time. Peru, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Argentina, Brazil, Canada and, above all, USA, they put themselves at the service of humor, one more year, in the Gothic cloister of the Center del Carme. S.M.
