Break the rules

au-break-the-rules-h

I have never broken a rule. From the moment he came into this world, It quickly became clear that he was going to be a man who would respect the rules without question.. It was in his nature. So much so, that not even the day of her delivery brought any surprise to her parents. He was born exactly nine months after being conceived.. Not a second more, not one less. Although later, as is logical, I would forget it, He took the time that elapsed from the moment his father's sperm fertilized his mother's egg and there he made his calculations to know when it should rear its head.. The doctor who treated him couldn't believe it.. Never in his life had he seen such precision.

Fortunately for him, This quality of his character was not, at least during the first years of his childhood, a big drawback. Your parents, They were also people who were very respectful of the rules or what is known as the “socially established.”, They never gave him reasons to disobey them, which took a great weight off his shoulders. He was always grateful to them for that.. His father once told him, “don't do what you see, do what you believe”. Great advice he would follow.. But this does not mean that he did not have, since its beginnings, some conflict over it. Already in kindergarten, It was seen that this inclination to not challenge authority was going to distance him from the rest of his colleagues.. He soon learned to relieve himself without help., animated by the intimate desire not to bother anyone, and he was upset when other children his age started crying every time their parents left them to go to work.. These may not have been his exact words. (I still didn't know how to speak well), but, somehow, He asked himself what was the point of regretting having to be there if it had to be done anyway.. It seemed like a most useless waste of energy..

That was to be his motto throughout his long period as a student.: "first of all, pragmatism". That freed him from many problems that did affect other boys he met over the years.. at school, never turned in an exercise late, They didn't even catch him copying or talking to the guy at the next desk., not even throwing anything on the ground, nor wasting time in the hallways between classes, His notebooks were so neat and well organized that they became an example for everyone and he always arrived at the exams with the lesson reasonably learned.. at the institute, although he tried to avoid them (He never sat in the back row of the class.), when the harshest boys tried to bother him, he willingly submitted. Why resist??, thought. That they think they are better? Well, believe it. Poor mean souls, it was said, while, deep inside, He rejoiced thinking that life would come and put them in their place later., as his father had told him. He was going about his business. And so it went through phases.

This same philosophy of obsessive compliance with the duty required by the corresponding authority, He also led his life at the university (in the exact five years in which he finished his career, never missed a class). Thanks to it, more than their interest in learning, He was able to pass the courses with notable success and only his own intellectual limits prevented him from making a better resume.. Then, immersed in the ruthless world of work, where he entered very early thanks to that same obedient spirit, showed the same devotion to the rules. It is true that this always kept him in the middle layers of his profession., seeing, sometimes with some bitterness, how others surpassed him because of his lack of ambition and his phobia of tripping up (something that was criticized behind his back, especially his superiors; what a strange guy, they said), But that didn't stop me from being relatively happy either.. As in his student days, never missed work, When he got sick he calculated it to coincide with the weekend and he never expected anything that would not be given to him in consideration of his merits.. They never fined him.

Then the virus arrived. And with it the declaration of the State of Alarm that confined the entire population inside their homes.. For a man accustomed to obey, that was no problem. If you had to lock yourself up, Well, you locked yourself in and it was over.. He watched the news on TV and was shocked to see those people who skipped the quarantine in such a capricious way.. But, what are they thinking about?, it was said, while he put his hands to his head. On the contrary, He almost felt a certain pleasure with this new order that had been imposed on him.. In a way, Not even he himself would have imagined a better paradise and, for the first time, he felt comfortable in the world. Of course there would always be some detail to outline., but, in general terms, for the first time he knew what he should do without questioning it or being forced to make alternative plans that, besides, I had to imagine, something he knew he had never been good at.

But that morning when he went to throw away the containers, everything changed. He went down the stairs to the street, so as not to cross paths with any neighbors. Then, He approached the container that was just five meters from the entrance of the building where he lived and deposited the bag.. There was no one else on the street. Determined not to occupy public roads more than necessary, He headed home without delay.. So, had that idea. And if, before uploading, went around the block? The idea, at first, it horrified him. No, you can't do that, it was said. But the idea had already settled in his head and wouldn't leave him alone.. Actually, He had been locked up for weeks and felt physically a little weak. It was one thing to comply with the confinement, and another that his body did not suffer from the lack of vitamin D caused by the lack of sun or the oppression caused by the constant vision of the walls of his small apartment.. It was said, and if? And then he said, no, impossible. But… for once. After all, he had never broken a single rule. If you counted all the rules that most of the people you knew had broken and taking into account their background, Didn't he have a lot of guilt to waste?? Once. Just to try it, it was said.

And so, He turned away from the door of his building and began to walk. The first steps were somewhat hesitant. He felt confused and, at the same time, amazed at the new experience. I was like a baby learning to walk again.. So this is what it feels like, thought. He traveled about twenty meters. His whole body was shaking with pure emotion.. Then, traveled five more. The most critical moment came when he had to turn the first corner. What if the police were waiting for you on the other side?? First a foot showed out. Then, the other. After, He slowly moved his body forward until his right eye began to cover the next street.. He laughed out of pure nervousness.. Nobody expected it. So, He kept walking and reached the next bend. (At some point he felt like his ankles were giving out.). After, to the next. So, He continued walking when he realized that not only was he worried about being stopped by law enforcement. What if someone saw him from one of the balconies of the buildings that surrounded him and gave him away?? Over there, over there!, I imagined someone was shouting from a nearby window., above your head. I had read about a similar case in the newspapers.. He clenched his teeth tightly and closed his eyes in a gesture that he considered to be pure bravery and, putting your hand on the wall to guide yourself, when, mentally calculating, He thought he had reached the next section, opened them. Yes!, he said to himself (although I would have shouted it from the rooftops, He did not believe it was prudent and repressed himself). There was no one either. So, he calmly arrived at the portal. He took out the key and put it in the lock., feeling safe, protected. It was when he insisted on making a second turn that they caught him.. In the faces of the police officers who arrested him he thought he saw the enraged face of his parents.. GERARDO LEON
