Devendra Banhart

SATURDAY 11/11, 21H. 34€
THE RAMBLET. Bulevard sud, cant. Pius IX

In the first of 2000, a hippie-inspired alternative indie/neo folk wind was blowing from the US to Europe with musicians such as CocoRosie, Anohni, Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart. But, far from remaining anchored as a fashion phenomenon, each one, in his own way, evolve this music scene to other horizons. A good illustration of this is the musical exploration he carries out Devendra Banhart in his last albums: without denying his rock and folk roots, looking towards cloudier and more experimental music. In his last work, Flying wings (Mexican Summer, 2023), inspired by a poem by Koboyashi Issa and created with the help of Cate LeBon, develops a cosmic rock and draws a musical universe that transforms despair into gratitude. One more proof that his early hippie ideal is still present… B.T.
