Carminho

THURSDAY 8/2, 19.30H. 34/50€
ARTS. Professor Lopez Piñero, 1

the fado (from Latin fate, “destiny”) finds its origin in the restaurants of the working-class districts of Lisbon where, at the end of the soup, a fadista, traditionally accompanied by a viola and a Portuguese guitar, he sings about his life experiences, often melancholic. Portable for figures with Carlos Ramos or Alfredo Marceneiro, it was Amália Rodrigues who, from the sixties, he modernized it and brought his own longing on stages around the world. Hui, his heirs are named Mariza, Antonio Zambujo o Carminho. The latter is probably the most internationally recognized fado performer today, embodying both the classic style of the genre and its evolution: on his last album, Portuguese (2023), feel free to modify the lyrics sexist of classics adapting them to the era of the post-me too or introduce modern instruments such as the mellotron or the electric guitar. It sings of human experience and passion, the loneliness, commitment and desire. “For me, fado is more a language than a message, more of a path than a destination”, diu: a language to discover on a stage in which the singer recreates the intimacy of one fado house Lisbon and puts the chicken skin to the viewer.
