Anna Calvi

THE RAMBLET. Bulevard sud, s/n

If he rock has a reputation for "manly" music, history proves that women have been able to give guitars an absolutely feminine touch. After Patti Smith or PJ Harvey - to name only these two -, we can also count from years ago with the shadowy voice d’Anna Calvi. On his third album, Hunter (Domino 2018), the English singer leaves her tortured singing and frees the word and the music at the same time, mixing strength and fragility in the ten new songs produced by a faithful collaborator of Nick Cave: Nick Launay. Definitely, an album that explores notions of gender, of pleasure and sensuality in torrid songs that gain in urgency. And rock uncompromising feminist. B.L.
